The Session Experience

A huge part of what makes me successful behind the camera is the collaboration we have together well before your session date. My pre-session styling sets you up to love your photos before we even begin shooting. We will spend time together prior to your session brainstorming outfits, style, mood and going over any vision or inspiration you are drawing from. These chats can happen via email or phone, and sometimes in person. We will hone in on exactly how you want your photographs to look and feel.

I start with Mom’s outfit and help you coordinate outfits for your whole family. Often, we are able to tie in outfits and props I have in my collections. Then, you’ll be given step by step guidance in shopping for remaining wardrobe items. This tried and true approach will take the guesswork and stress out of getting dressed and ensure that by the time the day of your session arrives, you will be feeling beautiful, put together, and confident. The rest of the family will be more relaxed because the process has been a breeze for you and the end result will be bigger and brighter smiles from everyone.

The styling work we do together before your session also ensures that by the time we meet on portrait day, we will be comfortable with each other and on the same page about the vision for the session. This means less “warm up” time and more shooting time, which translates into even more photographs you and your family will treasure.

After we’ve collaborated on the vision for your portraits and have styled your session, I will select a location that completes the vision and ensures that you and your family are the stars of your portraits. I select locations based on styling, weather conditions, and light.

I am always scouting for the very best conditions in real time, so that I can deliver the very highest quality results. Because of this, we sometimes put this final piece of the puzzle in place mere days before your session. I guarantee that you will absolutely love the finished product. Ultimately I try to remind my clients that the location isn’t very important,. I’m not shooting a location, I’m shooting you, your family, your connection.

I will bring everything we need to make your session something that you and your little ones look forward to year after year, whether that be bubbles, toys, or special props. We will play and run around; I will probably be acting ridiculous and laughing at myself as much as you are. If the session calls for it and your kids are game, we will splash in a creek or puddles or the ocean! Your session with me will feel more like a playdate than an annual duty. My goal is for everyone to leave a little tired, a little messy, and completely laughed out. I work hard to make sure you’re comfortable and feeling relaxed and beautiful. During a portrait session with Rosy Made Photography, the fun comes first and the camera just happens to be there to capture it.

I very rarely take photos where people are looking at the camera and instead I’m looking to capture the connection you have with each other vs the connection with my lens. For that reason I let clients know that if you have any requests for specific shots please let me know prior to the onset of the session
